| The possible cause of my rheumatoid arthritis - HealthCentral.com Posted: 22 May 2010 06:12 PM PDT In December 2008 I was placed on Effexor ER for anxiety and was vary happy with the results. I had lost my father a year before and besides a full time job, my husband and I took care of his mom and dad in our home. (Dad is being treated for Alzheimer's) The Effexor was helping me a great deal, to cope. 6 months later I had really unusual symptoms; tendonitis in my right shoulder, theen it would go to the left shoulder. This went on for months, and then my neck started bothering me. It was stiff, and I had a hard time driving, (I commute an hour each way to work) Being sent to many different Dr's, with no diagnosis. I started thinking back to my dad and his sensitivity to all medications and at that point I pulled the insert to the Effexor and in it's pretrial, a rare side effect was tendonitis, and bursitis. My Dr. didn't think it was an issue. Then all the flareups began; swollen hands, feet, hip and elbow pain and finally I was diagnosed with RA. While I am waiting for a preauth. from my Insurance company for Embrel, I went back to my Effexor insert and RA was a pretrial side effect! I am weaning myself off of Effexor under my Primary Dr's knowledge, and I have lost most of my symptoms of RA.I am down to 1 Effexor every 4 days, still have some swelling in hands, but my feet are almost back to normal. I have to say that my next step is to wean myself off Pred. and Methotrexate with, I hope my RA DR's blessing. I have an appointment on 6/7/10. He does not know yet about my discovery. I am working on my anxiety with Herbal tea, and it is working. Any comments are welcomed. Five Filters featured article: The Art of Looking Prime Ministerial - The 2010 UK General Election. | Join Thousands of Canadians in Fight Against Arthritis ... - PR Inside Posted: 22 May 2010 02:44 PM PDT 2010-05-22 23:45:03 - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 05/22/10 -- Editors Note: There are two photos included with this Press Release.
Affecting more than four million Canadians, arthritis is the leading cause of disability in Canada and can cause debilitating pain for those who suffer from this incurable disease.(1) To help raise awareness and funds for a cure, The Arthritis Society is launching the Walk to Fight Arthritis, presented by the makers of TYLENOL®- a fundraising event taking place in locations across Canada this spring.
"Arthritis doesn't just affect older people - in fact, nearly three of every five people with arthritis are under the age of 65," says Steven McNair, President and CEO, The Arthritis Society. "Arthritis is among the top three most common chronic diseases in Canada - and the Walk to Fight Arthritis aims to change the face of the disease and put us one step closer to finding a cure."
Arthritis is a cause that's close to Canadian hockey legend, Wendel Clark; his mother-in-law, along with many friends and former hockey mates suffer from the disease. Wendel is one of the many participants who will walk in Toronto on May 30 and join others by proudly wearing a symbolic Blue Badge to show his connection to the cause and the fight against arthritis.
"I'm thankful that I personally haven't developed arthritis, but I know it can happen - and I see how deeply it affects the people I care about every day," said Wendel Clark. "It's so important to raise awareness for this debilitating disease. By registering for a local walk and raising pledges, Canadians do just that, while helping to fund leading-edge research and essential programs too."
In addition to raising funds through pledging, Canadians are encouraged to visit www.WalktoFightArthritis.ca :
Changing the Face of Arthritis
Arthritis is one of the most common chronic diseases in Canada consisting of more than 100 different conditions and contrary to popular belief, it is not an old person's disease and can start at any age.
There are also many forms of arthritis. From juvenile arthritis, to osteoarthritis, to rheumatoid arthritis, most Canadians have been touched by this disease, whether they're impacted by the pain and disability of arthritis themselves or are supporting a friend, family member, or co-worker through the daily restrictions caused by this disease.
The good news is that there are things you can do to manage some types of arthritis, like osteoarthritis (OA) for example, which is the most common kind of arthritis affecting one-in-ten Canadians.(2)
"Moderate physical activity, such as walking, is one of the leading ways to help reduce the pain and disability caused by some forms of arthritis, and the Walk to Fight Arthritis celebrates this," says McNair. "Not only are we walking to join the fight against arthritis, we're actively demonstrating ways to help manage the disease, too."
In addition to moderate physical activity, medication can also play can play a role in managing the disease. Over the counter medications, like acetaminophen or prescription medications like nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help reduce pain and using arthritis friendly products like TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain with its easy to open cap are also helpful. A healthcare provider can provide more information on the management of arthritis and should be consulted before starting a treatment plan.
Register today!
There is still time to register to participate and show support for the Walk to Fight Arthritis. There are several events taking place across the country on Sunday, May 30. All locations will offer 1km and 5km route options, allowing each participant to choose the distance that is right for them.
While there is no cost to register, participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 in pledges. All participants who raise $100 or more will receive an official Walk to Fight Arthritis t-shirt on event day.
Participating locations include: - Vancouver, BC - Kingston, ON - Sudbury, ON - Calgary, AB - Kitchener, ON - Thunder Bay, ON - Winnipeg, MB - Hamilton, ON - Toronto, ON - Moose Jaw, SK - London, ON - Windsor, ON - Etobicoke, ON - Ottawa, ON(i) - Montreal, QC - Halifax, NS - St. John's, NL (i)Ottawa event took place on Sunday, May 16
Regardless of where they live, all Canadians can create their own Virtual Walk if their city or town is not listed. Interested participants can gather a group of family, friends or co-workers, set their own route and register online for the virtual walk. Not only can the group walk on their own schedule, but everyone will still be eligible for the great incentive prizes.
Walk participants - each with their own connection to arthritis - will also receive a Blue Badge to wear during the events. The Blue Badge will symbolize that there are multiple forms of arthritis and that it impacts Canadians of all ages and not just the elderly.

What wouldn't you give to right now have that nagging pain in your back, arms, legs and shoulders suddenly just stop within a few minutes so you felt free to move in any direction -- without pain? 70 Million American Suffer from Chronic Back Pain. What if we told you that with our 2000-year old health secrets, you will experience relief from that constant stiffness when you get up each morning and throughout the day? Wouldn't it be a new life for you to go from morning until night without any pain or discomfort? Years ago my mother found that walking was becoming increasingly difficult. Finally she couldn't even get out of bed. Once very active, she became bedridden and couldn't even get up for the bathroom. My father is a well-known holistic doctor in India and repeatedly told her, "Take only my medicine!" So for years she faithfully drank lemon water and followed other instructions – yet her arthritis pain continued to worsen. Eventually my mother decided to give our Ayurveda medicine a try. Today she regularly hikes in the Himalayas! The solution? We gave her a special diet, herbal supplements, some basic panchakarma (cleansing) treatments and home remedies. She followed the program with amazing results. It was really hard work with my mother – yet the outcome has been very powerful. Now even my father has changed his tune and says, "Whatever happens, don't stop taking HIS medicines!" He is 90 years old today and is also standing in queue for the herbs. Recent USA studies show that arthritis-related numbers are increasing daily as Baby Boomers turn 65 and beyond. We gave her herbal supplements for muscles and bones and a diet to use and she found an overall change. She had more energy and people noticed it to. They started asking her, "What are you taking? Your energy has changed completely! You are as spry as a woman 30 years younger! The following Seven Remarkable Ayurveda Secrets have helped thousands throughout our 22-year Ayurveda practice who suffered from the discomfort, acute chronic pain and immobilizing stiffness of arthritis. They decrease toxicity build-up in your body – the root cause of all arthritic conditions. When VATA (the air element) increases and begins to accumulate in any or all of your joints, the trouble begins. Read on… 1. Take one teaspoon of Castor Oil every other night with warm ginger tea after the age of 50. If you already have joint trouble, then take this every evening. 2. Avoid heavy beans, wheat, fried food, red meat, and raw vegetables. Replace eating raw vegetables by drinking fresh juice made from salads, vegetables and fruits. 3. Eat a VATA PACIFYING DIET (please visit www.ayushakti-usa.com for complete diet) In addition, take lots of calcium-boosting foods such as at least two tablespoons of sesame seeds, Tahini or crushed sesame powder each day to fulfill your daily Calcium requirement. 4. If you have symptoms of AAMA (toxicity – like sluggishness, low energy, depression), fast on MUNG BEAN SOUP for 3-5 days. This will help you both short-term and long! (recipe appears on www.ayushakti-usa.com) The affects of this soup are miraculous! Spice it soup with ginger, coriander and cumin and watch the changes in your body. 5. Take a regular Sesame Oil Massage, rubbing the oil (with steam or in the shower) at least once a week over painful, stiff joints. Take oil with your meals. It's best to use olive and sesame oil. 6. Boil one potato chopped with its skin every morning in two cups of water. Reduce the water to one cup, filter it and drink with half a teaspoon of whole fenugreek seeds. She took the Arthritis herbs that we recommended for one year. Within one year, she felt so much better that she stopped taking them. Since then, she just keeps getting better and better. | Krill Oil Health Benefits, Controversy - eMaxHealth.com Posted: 22 May 2010 06:41 PM PDT Krill oil, the omega-3 rich substance that is derived from shrimp-like crustaceans that populate the oceans, is a popular nutritional supplement because of its numerous health benefits. But the oil is also the source of some controversy, most recently brought to light by Whole Foods. Krill Oil Health Advantages In a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study of 90 people who had arthritis and/or cardiovascular disease, researchers discovered that study participants who took 300 mg of krill oil for one to two weeks had significantly less inflammation and improved symptoms of arthritis. In another study, 1,000 to 1,500 mg of krill oil daily significantly lowered cholesterol, triglyceride, and other lipid levels. Women with PMS and dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) experienced relief when taking krill oil as part of a University of Montreal double-blind, randomized study. After three months' treatment using either krill oil or fish oil, the women who had been taking krill oil said they needed to take significantly fewer pain killers than women who took fish oil, and they also reported significantly better emotional symptoms when compared with women in the fish oil group. An advantage of krill oil supplements over fish oils is that because krill are at the bottom of the food chain, they do not accumulate and concentrate mercury like fish do. There have been concerns about the presence of mercury, PCBs, and other contaminants in fish oils. Krill oil also has a different structure than fish oils, which makes it more easily absorbed by the body. Krill Oil Controversy Whole Foods further notes that it has chosen to discontinue selling krill oil supplements as it continues to monitor research on the matter. The company asks customers to consider alternatives to krill oil, including astaxanthin and fish oil. The executive director of Global Organisation for EPA and DHA Omega-3 (GOED), Adam Ismael, noted in a recent Fish Info & Services (FIS) article that the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR), effectively monitors krill fishing in the Antarctic. "CCAMLR actually just implemented new measures in November for the krill fishery, which further protects predator species that feed on krill, as well as protecting the krill fishery itself." According to the FIS article, the krill industry insists they have only nine vessels that are licensed to fish for krill in the Antarctic and that they all follow CCAMLR guidelines. In a New York Times article from May 25, 2008, entitled "Overfishing of krill threatens ocean ecosystem," Denzil Miller, executive secretary of CCAMLR, noted that the idea of their guidelines is to spread out the catch once it reaches a certain size, especially in the south Atlantic where most of the krill fishing occurs. If they fail to do this, he said, the consequences could be disastrous, as krill catches were already increasing quickly. Krill oil offers health benefits, as do fish oils and astaxanthin. When consumers consider which natural supplements to take, part of the decision should be based on whether the product is being brought to market in a responsible, sustainable fashion. For some consumers, krill oil supplements may be a product about which they need to think twice.
